LOW CARB DIETS

Low carb diets these days are all the rage.

Cut your carbs and you cut your fat!

Or at least that’s what they tell you will happen.

Let’s look at low carb diets and figure out how they work and why.

 

Low carb diets.

This term is very broad. There are many variations of how to perform a low carb diet, in what way, what time, and what day.

 

But the premise is the same.

 

Carbs are low and that’s the gist.

 

What are low carb diets for?

Typically you will see them promoted for fat loss or weight reduction.

 

Why would they work?

Carbohydrates are the typical quick body fuel food for powering your energy. They give you juice for everyday life, hard gym workouts, etc. Carbs will be stored in the muscle as glycogen and used as needed.

The idea is that if the carbs are low, the body will turn to fat to burn instead thus producing weight loss and fat loss.

 

Does this actually happen?

To some degree it can.

 

But is that really why low carb diets work?

Not really.

You see the trick to low carb diets or any “Diet” really is just caloric restriction.

Eating lower carbs typically means you are eating less calories overall. When you eat fewer calories overall you tend to lose weight.

 

Rocket science?

Nope.

 

All and all, low carb is just another way to restrict calories. It works great for some and not at all for others.

 

Really it just comes down to you and what you can stick to consistently.

Give it a shot and see if it works for you and your goals.

If it does, keep doing it.

If it doesn’t,

Change it.
